HOW AMARCUS IS BEING BUILT
A straight answer to the questions we'd rather you asked us than assumed.
If you're curious enough to be reading this page, you're exactly who we built AMARCUS for. So here's the honest version of how a watch becomes an AMARCUS. We are building AMARCUS because the founders love watches, and we intend for this company to be a proud Indian independent watch "making" house in the future. This company is being built for legacy with decades in mind. We are building for 2100 AD and beyond.
THE MOVEMENT
Every AMARCUS runs on a Sellita movement for now — Swiss-made, automatic, the same family of movements used across the industry by brands that have stellar legacies. We didn't inherit a manufacturer and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
Where we're headed: Fewer than fifteen watch companies in the world make their own movements end to end. In-house movement design is a ten-to-fifteen-year undertaking, not a marketing line. It requires tooling, capital, and a customer base large enough to support both. That's the long game for AMARCUS — we're building the brand, the dial artistry, and the trust first, because a first movement built on a rushed foundation helps no one. When we get there, you'll see the R&D in public, not just the launch.
THE CASE & MATERIALS
Cases are 316L stainless steel or Carbon Fibre or Titanium, brushed and polished, sourced from the same specialist supply chain most of the watch industry — Swiss, German, and Japanese brands included — draws from. Sapphire crystal is genuine, coated anti-reflective on both sides. Straps are leather-like or FKM, sourced and finished in India.
We're not going to claim a fully domestic supply chain that doesn't exist yet. What's Indian about an AMARCUS case today is the design decisions made about it, not the alloy it's milled from. We have no problem admitting that we are assemblers today.
THE DIAL — WHERE THE ARGUMENT ACTUALLY LIVES
This is the part that's ours. The story, motifs, textures, the dial artistry that turns a Sellita-powered watch into an AMARCUS — that's designed, tooled, and finished specifically for us, not pulled from a catalog. This is where you're paying for something that is unique and in a league of its own.
WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES
Roughly, on a typical AMARCUS release:
MOVEMENT & CORE COMPONENTS
Swiss-sourced, priced in dollars, taxed on import into India
DIAL ART & TOOLING
The custom work: printing, rotors, hand-finished indices
CASE, CRYSTAL, STRAP
Materials and finishing
ASSEMBLY & QC
Done via our partners and in-house, by hand, checked in stages
EVERYTHING ELSE
Packaging, warranty reserve, and the actual business of staying alive as a young ambitious company with a goal of manufacturing and designing its own movements.
AVAILABILITY
When we say a run is limited to 101 pieces, that number is real, and every piece is individually serialized on the caseback — verifiable, not a marketing tier. We won't run false "3 left" countdowns or manufacture urgency we don't mean. If something is sold out, it's sold out because it sold, and we'll tell you when — or if — it's coming back. The number of pieces manufactured are also in line with the amount of capital we can afford to spend to make a certain number of watches.
Ship dates will occasionally slip. When they do, we'll tell you before you have to ask why your order hasn't moved.
AFTER THE SALE
A Sellita movement can be serviced by any competent watchmaker, in India or anywhere else, for as long as you own the watch. That's not a compromise. For a young house, it's the more responsible choice we could make on your behalf.
Every AMARCUS carries a two-year warranty, with service and repair coordinated directly through us.
THE SHORT VERSION
We use a Swiss movement because building our own today would mean building it badly and the capital involved would mean we would be irresponsible to set off on that journey. We design and tool our own dials because that's the only part we can do. We tell you which is which, on every page, because you're curious enough to have found this one — and that's the only kind of customer this house was built for.
WE ARE NOT HERITAGE BACKED, AND WE'RE NOT PRETENDING TO BE
The watch industry's waitlist reputation was earned by brands with the capacity to make more, choosing not to, to inflate resale value and reward dealer relationships over actual customers. That's not our situation, and we're not going to borrow the mystique of that model while having none of its economics. When we say a run is limited, it's limited by capital allotment, batch size and production capacity — not by a decision to withhold stock we could otherwise ship.
YOUR POSITION IS A NUMBER, NOT A MYSTERY
When you register interest for an AMARCUS release, you'll see your actual position in the queue — not a vague "you're on the list," a number. As production moves, that number moves, and we'll tell you when it does. If we can't fulfill your position for any reason, you'll hear that from us before you have to come looking for it.
"SOLD OUT" MEANS SOLD OUT
If a release shows as sold out, it's because every serialized piece in that run found an owner — not because we're holding stock back to relist later at the same manufactured urgency. We won't quietly flip a "sold out" release back to "available" days later. If a genuinely new batch opens, we'll say so explicitly, as a new batch, with its own numbers.
DEPOSITS ARE HELD AGAINST YOUR WATCH, NOT OUR CASH FLOW
If registering interest ever involves a deposit, that money is allocated against your specific unit in production — not treated as general working capital. If a ship date slips, you'll be notified with a revised date before the original one passes, not after you've had to ask. And if you'd rather step off the list than wait, refunds on undelivered deposits are yours on request, without friction.
SILENCE IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM WE'RE SOLVING FOR
Most of the frustration with waitlists has nothing to do with waiting — it's the silence in between. So we commit to a standing cadence: a status update at every meaningful production milestone, whether or not there's good news to report. A delay communicated early is a minor inconvenience. A delay discovered by a customer chasing an unanswered email is how trust actually breaks.
